About Us
RVCC was established by a group of enthusiasts in 2000. Membership soon grew as it became noted for its competitive as well as social croquet. The lawns have proved a great asset with an irrigation system to ensure they remain in good condition even in the driest of summers. A wide range of activities and events to enjoy are laid on throughout the year.
Club sessions are quite social affairs often with refreshments brought along by members.
Monday: 2.00 to 4.30pm - Coaching & Practice
Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays: 2.00 to 5.00pm - Club Roll-up
Coaching is an integral activity for both beginners and those with more experience. We have three qualified coaches, and occasionally invite others to bring in fresh ideas.
We play matches against other clubs in the region: some ‘friendly’, and others in leagues under the auspices of the South East Croquet Confederation. (SECF).
Like most clubs we have internal competitions running throughout the season. Participation by all is encouraged whatever your ability – there is something for everyone. Our lawn booking system is simple to use so that you can easily arrange games.
Matches against other clubs and tournament entries are played in whites: the rest of the time we play in normal clothing, and flat-soled shoes. You are very welcome to use one of our mallets although it won’t be long before you’re tempted to have one of your own.
Our season starts in early April and runs until late October. Autumn is the time when we carry out lawn maintenance. The practice lawn remains open over the winter months for ‘hardy members’. A mulled wine event in early January is not unknown!
The clubhouse has a good range of facilities for hot and cold drinks and snacks, indoor and outdoor seating and a picnic area. It is used for refreshments when we have events, home matches, and for entertaining groups who come to enjoy ‘something different’, sometimes annually.
